A diver's mecca
Rapid Bay is famous among divers as one of the best shore-dive sites in Australia. The old T-shaped jetty (now derelict but still accessible in part) supports a rich ecosystem that shelters leafy sea dragons, cuttlefish, stingarees and hundreds of reef fish species.
Beach and camping
The beach itself is a sheltered crescent of sand framed by dramatic sandstone cliffs. A popular bush camping ground sits right behind the beach. The Heysen Trail runs along the cliff tops on either side.
Tips
- Best visibility for diving is typically in winter
- Bring your own everything - there is no shop on the bay
- The road in from Cape Jervis Road passes through striking coastal farmland
