Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park

A coastal bushland remnant

Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park (now part of the larger Wangkuntila-Aldinga Conservation Park since the 2022 addition of the Aldinga Washpool) protects one of the only surviving remnants of the original coastal scrub that once stretched along the Gulf St Vincent. The park is squeezed between the suburbs of Aldinga Beach and Sellicks Beach, and its undulating dunes, mallee, sheoak woodland and seasonal wetlands feel a world away from the houses next door.

Walks and wildlife

A network of sandy walking tracks loops through the scrub and out to the dune crests overlooking the beach. It is a particularly good spot for birdwatchers, with honeyeaters, scrub wrens, fairywrens and the occasional western whipbird, and kangaroos are often seen at dawn and dusk. The recently added Aldinga Washpool wetland brings waterbirds into the mix during winter and spring.

Visiting notes

Entry is free and the park is open daily during daylight hours. There are no facilities inside the park, so bring water and sun protection. Dogs are not permitted as it is a conservation park.
