Port Willunga Beach

Limestone cliffs & the Star of Greece jetty ruins

One of the Fleurieu's most photographed beaches, framed by golden limestone cliffs and home to the haunting remains of the 1864 cargo jetty.

A Fleurieu icon

Port Willunga Beach is a wide, shallow stretch of golden sand backed by dramatic creamy limestone cliffs, one of the most photographed scenes on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The weathered pylons of the 1864 Port Willunga Jetty stand in the water off the beach - the jetty was built to ship produce from McLaren Vale and was abandoned in 1915.

What to do

  • Swimming (lifeguard-free, no patrol)
  • Diving - the Star of Greece shipwreck lies just offshore
  • Walking along the cliff tops and historic fishermen's caves cut into the cliff face
  • Sunset photography (the cliffs glow orange and gold)
  • Lunch or coffee at the Star of Greece Kiosk at the top of the cliff

Parking is on The Esplanade at the top of the cliff; a stair descends to the sand.
